Ryan

Founder & Head Behaviour Specialist

With over a decade of experience in dog behaviour, training, and rehabilitation, Ryan Kiddell is the founder of Good Dog Training and the driving force behind its clear, structured approach. Known for his calm, confident presence and deep understanding of both canine and human behaviour, Ryan has helped hundreds of owners turn challenges into real, lasting change.

Ryan brings a unique edge to dog training with a background in physiology and behavioural science. This lens shapes the way he approaches every case — taking into account not just the dog’s behaviour, but also the environment, triggers, communication patterns, and nervous system responses that sit underneath it.

His proven framework blends structure, empathy, and leadership, helping both dogs and their owners build trust, confidence, and meaningful connection. Whether working with family pets, rescues, or high-drive working breeds, Ryan’s focus is always progress — not perfection.

At Good Dog Training, Ryan leads a committed team, mentors up-and-coming trainers, and continues to evolve the systems that have made GDT one of New Zealand’s most trusted names in dog training.

Amber

Founder / Communications
Alongside co founder and head behaviorist Ryan, I’ve helped build Good Dog Training from the ground up with a vision to create more than just a dog training  ir care business — we wanted to build a space that truly supports both dogs and their humans. From the beginning, we’ve worked tirelessly to understand not only what dogs need to thrive, but also what their owners need to feel confident, supported, and empowered in their journey together.

With a lifelong passion for animals and a deep commitment to care, I’ve helped shape the systems and operations that make Good Dog Training a place of learning, transformation, and trust. Our approach is about striking the right balance: honoring the emotional needs of families while ensuring dogs receive the structure, consistency, and fulfillment they deserve to thrive. Today, our programs reflect years of experience, growth, and a genuine love for helping dogs become their best selves — and helping people become the best teammates their dogs could ask for.

Jarmon

Head Trainer

Jarmon, known to many as Jay, has been working professionally with dogs for nearly four years and is one of the lead trainers at Good Dog Training. Having grown up around dogs of all breeds and personalities, Jay brings a calm, confident energy to every training session.

Jay has worked closely alongside GDT founder Ryan and our team behaviour physiologist, deepening his understanding of canine behaviour beyond the surface. This mentorship has shaped his ability to identify the root causes of behavioural issues and apply clear, practical strategies that support both dog and owner.

Specialising in working with reactive, anxious, and nervous dogs, Jay is also highly skilled in shaping general behaviour and helping dogs build confidence. He excels in coaching owners—especially those who are new or unsure—on how to read, understand, and communicate effectively with their dogs. Jay’s passion lies in helping dogs thrive and in supporting owners to build lasting, balanced relationships with their companions.

Ryan

Site Manager
With a background that spans nearly seven years in farming and six years in construction, Ryan brings a strong work ethic, calm leadership, and practical problem-solving to his role as Site Manager at Good Dog Training. During his farming years, he also dedicated time to retraining and rehoming dogs—an experience that sparked his long-term connection to canine behaviour and care.

At GDT, Ryan plays a key role in maintaining the daily flow and energy of the site. He focuses on creating a positive, respectful environment for both dogs and humans, ensuring the team works cohesively while always striving to improve. His passion for the outdoors, family, and quality of life carries through in the way he leads—with authenticity, balance, and a steady presence that keeps the operation running smoothly.
