Good Dog
Leadership is important in maintaining a well bala Leadership is important in maintaining a well balanced dog.
So what is leadership?
One of the major parts of leadership within your relationship is ensuring you, your voice, your physical touch are conditioned to mean the right thing to your dog.
Often we unintentionally create the wrong association of whatvwe represent to our dogs. Our mere presence, our voice, our a pat, means go crazey! If this is wrong.... chances are you will have zero control or respect from your dog.

Outlets: Does not always mean fetch, tug or runni Outlets: Does not always mean fetch, tug or running. Calm outlets are super important. Things like practicing your commands in a mini training circuit are hugely beneficial - e.g. Work through all your commands in a sequence.
“Sit”, “down”, walk 5 meters. Call your dog (“come”) then ask them to “place”.  Take a few steps “lets go”, “ here” walk them 5 meters in a heel.  Repeat.
Heel walking, lead walking, the down stay at a park bench, practicing sitting and downing through every doorway in and out of our house. These are all outlets and stimulation for your dog but also promote a calm and relaxed headspace.  Mental stimulation is just as important for your dog.

Rules, boundaries, communication.. It is important Rules, boundaries, communication.. It is important to start implementing structure, rules, and boundaries into your dogs life from the get go.
By setting a good standard from the beginning and building a communication and respectful relationship between you and your dog, you are making things easy for yourself as your puppy grows and matures through adolescents, into an adult dog.
Through these phases of your dogs life, their instincts will grow, their independence will grow, their strength and power will grow.
It is not unusual for behavioral issues to pop up out of nowhere.
But having a base to work with will make all the difference when it comes to these issues popping up and working your dog through them with ease.

SOUND ON. Affection and verbal ques rewards behavi SOUND ON.
Affection and verbal ques rewards behaviour, which can be great for getting our dogs to do certain behaviours more often.
On the flip side, it can also encourage unwanted behaviours, such as guarding traits, anxiety, and reactivity. If we talk to our dog a lot and talk with the high pitched excited tones we all know really well…. And often…
Chances are you have conditioned your voice to mean elevate.
Take note of how often you talk to your dog, what the situation is, and in what manner, then notice what happens when you try to tell them to settle when your on your walk.
Can you see here how you could be making things harder for yourself?

My dog walks well next to me with a slack leash on My dog walks well next to me with a slack leash once he is a bit tired but my question is. Q. How do I make him walk well next to me without him pulling on the leash when we start our walk. Here goes, and I am trying my hardest to keep this short and simple... Dogs learn through consistent patterns and everything they do is a behaviour. Our actions around our dogs will mould their behaviour. By this I mean, everything starts from within your home-living and establishing rules and boundaries. Rules and boundaries teach impulse control and build a clear, cut, communication system with our dogs. Good leash etiquette firstly needs to be taught through repetition, over time.
You can not expect your dog to just do what you are asking him/her without first teaching them. Step 1. find your trigger point. Go through your walk routine and find which part is triggering the excitement. e.g. Are you hyping up your dog by talking to them prior? Does your dog get instantly excited when you pick up the lead or put on your shoes?
Find your triggers and work from here. Example. Walking through the door itself is the trigger. Did you know that moving through a door or what we call a threshold can be seen as an environmental reward to your dog, and this is where the excitement comes from. Next time your off for a walk let us not focus on the walk but spend 20 minutes learning to settle at the doorway.
Walk up to the door, make your dog sit behind you at the door, walk through the door, walk a few meters stop sit, turn around and repeat. Ensure your dog is deescalating and calming before you move forward. You can also practice down stays and sit stops simply back and forth.
This may seem silly, but it will actually tire your dog out through the mental stimulation of learning impulse control and lets not forget they simply enjoy learning and interacting with you!
Its all about, being a good leader and being aware of our actions around our dogs in order to best mould their behaviour.
